    It's HERE!
What's here? In case you missed it: http://goo.gl/pbMMDi

Ok it's official, the release is here! We're excited for you to try it and experience what we have in store. We would like to release this and have everyone get used to it, and then get some feedback about steering it into the future. As stated before (around, various places), there's so much more in store so keep that in mind - we're taking this some place.

Have fun exploring the map we have for you - it's small, it's a beginner map, we know. Keep in mind, again, this is the first step on a hopefully deep journey... a Saga. There's secrets in it, exploring will be rewarded. If you find something that doesn't make sense to you, obviously ask. Check the FAQ I'm including as the first reply to this post for answers to all of the questions we could think of. They're not just one-word answers, they include some reasoning and logic we used to make the decisions. If there's something related to a plugin being broken or something not working, and it's also something not answered in this FAQ definitely ask! We may have missed stuff somewhere. We DID put a lot of time into this though, so before you start asking why things are balanced how they are, or making suggestions, remember, things are the way they are for a reason - you're only seeing the most basic introductory step in an extremely long journey. More maps are going to be released shortly. There is a full-on everything-you-need-to-know guide written by @Itacelis that's on it's way and will be added here when it's ready.

There is a custom and unique crafting experience that's part of the Adventure Update we've built. I think it makes total sense and is obvious, but maybe not everyone does, and that's ok. To make explaining it even easier, I made a short (~4 minute) video guide explaining the very basics to get you started, check it out:

And in case you missed the original hype video (cinematic of Shimmerleaf Grove), here it is again:

So that's what we have for now. I'll keep my eye out for questions and add content as necessary.

Explore, discover, and have fun D00ds! Let us know what you think!

    Pre-Emptive FAQ

I don’t like playing RPGs, I just like [farming/building/derping/chatting/the economy/etc], so why do I have to do this?
Good news! You don’t! We want to keep the server thriving, and so we keep working on ways to keep players engaged and having fun. This is just another way to do that. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to, it’s all optional. It should be thought of as just another thing to do on the server like the PVP arena or Build Challenges, or Skyblock (when we had/have it).

    Will I die?
Yes. Oh yes, you will die.

    Will I lose my stuff?
Maybe. Easier levels will have inventory loss on death turned off. Higher difficulty levels, for sure. Listen, the inventory is shared so you can keep the things you earn there. This is another reason to rank up. The dungeons are difficult. Rank up to keep as much of your inventory on death as possible because you will die. Seriously, some of the things in there are ultra rare. Don’t die and lose it in the chaos.

Why does it cost so much money to do this?
A lot of reasons, actually. First, you get $1000/day if you vote, so keep the cost in perspective. That’s 2 runs a day. You need to have some decent gear to make a reasonably fun run at even our first Beginner Level map Shimmerleaf Grove. Chances are, if you can part with the $500, you have a decent shot at success there. You are also being given access to an area that will allow you to profit significantly if you are willing to put in the effort - with both money and items. Access to these areas must be restricted in some way so as not to flood the server with items and money, and preserve the longevity of this effort. If we don’t pre-emptively balance, this would take over the economy and force players to play it that wouldn’t otherwise. It needs to stay optional, and just be a compliment to our server, not the only way to get along in it.

Why is it an “Adventure Dungeon” and not just an “Adventure Map”?
Well we think it’s different than an Adventure Map because by and large, Adventure Maps tend to be standalone instances. The update we’ve created enhances our survival on the server, and can link in directly with it, if you choose to play that way (but you don’t have to do anything, as outlined above). This may seem like a small difference, but it is significant if you truly consider and explore some of the items available to you.

When will new maps come out?
Well as mentioned above, we are using Shimmerleaf Grove as a yardstick for community engagement, usefulness, participation, etc. in the new maps. If all goes well, once enough time has passed and we have a good feel for how to proceed, we will at that time. That’s not an answer, but I would say we’d need at least a few weeks to see for sure. We will take as long as necessary to get it right though. My personal opinion is I would be surprised if it took longer than 3 weeks until the next map release. That’s not binding though so…

    Who makes the maps?
This may be one of the most critical and interesting and incredible parts about this Adventure Update. Our plan is to have the community submit maps as well as have maps designed by staff. Yes, we want your maps. There will be a VERY SPECIFIC GUIDE released soon if there is enough interest, but that will be part of another thread. We use custom plugins, and you need to know what those are, get access to them… And so that we can ensure things like maximum quality and balance of the final product before releasing it to the community, you’ll have to pass some pretty stringent guidelines. There’s so much to talk about with this part of it, that this isn’t the spot to go into detail. If you can’t wait though, and you want to start something now, you should know that the maps need to be kept small so that we can keep the maximum number of them loaded at the same time. Max dimensions for now should be no larger than 250 block radius (which means 500 by 500 overall). Remember we have a ton of guidelines and requirements for you to meet before we would accept your map on the server, so if you start your map before you get the chance to see them, you may have to redo your map, we may ask or need to make changes to it, or scrap it entirely. Just saying. No matter what though, you will always get credit for your map.

What is [DungeonType] listed by Riley?
At this point, because other content aside from Shimmerleaf Grove hasn’t been released yet, we’re not ready to go into too much more detail beyond the descriptions she already provides. We don’t want to ruin the surprise. They’re pretty self-explanatory for the most part, though.

    Why are items so expensive?
Well the short answer is: because these are ALL the items. As previously mentioned, this is something we hope to take with us over the long haul (as long as it’s something the community wants and enjoys). Obviously we can create additional items in the future, and we will, but our Adventure Update is not built as a thing you should expect to master within a few hours or days. Items are also so expensive because they are so very rare. This will provide a lot for our server: a new source of income (rare items and Era, for example, will sell for high prices once players see the power of such items), and honestly some of the new items (as you will see) actually create loadouts for players that can essentially make for different class types (which may be used in the future… *wink* *wink*).

Where do I get the stuff to pay for things?
Killing mobs in the dungeons will get you those dank drops. The drops are rare so expect to invest time. The effects of the items you ultimately will earn are game changing so it will be worth it. Trust me. Or not, I'm not the boss of you (unless I am). There may be other ways in the future, but just stick with that for now. We will eventually release the loot tables so you know your chances.

What can I do with the items I get here?
Part of the reason they’re worth so so much, is because they’re not just for the Adventure Update. They are useful in Adventure Dungeons, Farm World, and Survival (yes, Nether and The End too!)! Yes, PVP.

    Why is it so easy?
Sure it is, kid. Listen, if you have Beacon level armor and equips, yeah this won’t be too tough. But you’re already a pro at this game to begin with so ease up a bit, ok? Also, this is an “Easy” lvl dungeon. Rest assured we have created and will continue to create dungeons that will make you want to tear your hair out and drops that will keep you coming back for more.

    Why is it so hard?
It may not be for everyone. That’s ok. If we made it too easy, players would beat it quickly and get bored with it. We put months of development work into this, and to see people get bored with it in a week… that’s not a great use of our time, and honestly not a great feature to add to a server. It would feel disposable. Having better equipment makes it less painful. Having potions helps. Going in a group helps. Earning those rare items like Raw Eranite and using them to get those dank equips will help. If it’s not a challenge, the things you earn from it feel cheap, and they weaken everything else they touch (like the economy, MCMMO, Survival, etc.). We ain’t about that cheap life.

Why does it cost so much to repair?
Well factor in the extremely unique and rare properties of the items, and then multiply that by the fact that they are infinitely repairable… you just need the money to do it. No raw materials go into it, either.

So that's what we have for now. I'll keep my eye out for questions and add content as necessary.

I like what I see so far. Obviously a lotof work was put into it.

One question, is there any info on the various new weapon stats and what they do?

I tried the "Hand Cannon" bow which has "TNT II", assuming it had some kind of explosive AOE effect,. but that does not seem to be the case.

Thanks D00d! The TNT effect is in the arrow, not the bow. If you hit a mob directly, the TNT should trigger AOE damage. This was hard to get right, so if this doesn't work let us know, we will take a look at it. Gonna tag @Harsh and @TelekineticLlama because they worked out the bones of that.

@Lurching There is a cooldown on the TNT bow, and it only works when you shoot the bow, not when you melee with it. You may also not be seeing the explosions if you have a video setting turned off; I'm not sure if particles affects it, but it might. Either way, the aoe should still be applying to mobs, granted that it is within the cooldown that it states whenever you attempt to shoot again after using the ability.

Ok , does anything special have to be done to use the ability? I havent seen anything on screen about a cooldown.

Just tried it, apparently it only works in main hand and not in offhand, which is why I never saw the effect.

I always use a bow in offhand and looting 3 sword in main hand to get the looting 3 effect on bow kills.

Yeah, you'll have to use the bow from your mainhand sadly. Gotta keep in mind that these are custom enchantments that don't exist within vanilla minecraft, and we had to do a lot of work just to get them working, so there might be some small trade-offs like this. And the looting sword in mainhand thing is a bug with Minecraft, not really something that's supposed to be in the game anyways. Looting also doesn't affect dungeon mobs; once we start releasing higher difficulty dungeons (depending on if people enjoy shimmerleaf and give positive feedback), then those will be viable options to get higher drop rates.

This might be a stupid question but how do you complete the first dungeon, I feel like there's something I'm suppose to do but can't figure it out.

Main hand bow use is fine, I was just explaining why I never saw the effect at first. At least now I know how it works.

I didnt expect looting to work in the dungeon, though the bows do also work in the main survival world.

I always thought the looting thing with bows, as well as other effects with off-hand tool or weapon use, was intended, one of the benefits of the off-hand feature. I see no logical reason why that enchant should be limited to melee weapons only.

In the first dungeon you have to find out what happened to the Druid's assistant. Once you find them, you have to get near enough to interact with them (via right-clicking) to complete it.

In terms of map making, it would be very helpful to know more about the planned lore and what directions it can take

I agree! I'm going to try to meet with @TelekineticLlama and @Harsh this week to help finalize guidelines for the maps we would like you guys to design and share with the community. It will involve A LOT of technical language and disclaimers because we need to make it official IH material, and you guys aren't part of IH staff, so we'd have a lot of hurdles to clear.

We will of course go into great detail about what we'd like out of them, HOWEVER, at this time, and for the foreseeable future (unless this mapmaking becomes the hot new thing that takes over IH and we all win the lottery), there are no plans for me to share the Lore in any meaningful way. At this time, Disc doesn't even know the lore. It's a fantasy/steampunk/futuristic story arc that I've been working on for years (and was something I wrote for a TCCG that I was helping design). Only TelekineticLlama and Harsh have read it.

It is massive, and is its own self-contained universe designed to literally incorporate something for EVERYONE.

Sounds great, so why won't I share it? Well it's an original story, and if it doesn't succeed at taking form here and having a life of its own in this iteration, I will, at some point, use it for something else in a different way. I want to maintain control over that because it's my baby. I don't want to get into a creative/copyright/legal crap down the road with someone trying to snatch my stuff. I don't think anyone here would do that, but if I'm lucky enough to get this to make some money for the server down the road.... money makes people do stupid things. I want to avoid that. On top of that, like I mentioned, this may not last on here for any number of reasons. Throwing it all out there early and then it falling on its face wouldn't be a good idea.

The way we have the maps set up, and what you can already learn about the story from the NPC's we have around are about 85% of what you'd need to know about our design, and our plan for moving maps forward, in terms of a story.

So for now, just create and tell your own story! It can be contained in a single map, or spread out across several. Either way, it in NO WAY needs to fit in with the story we have going. Standalone maps are 100% legit and what we are actually looking for.

Great questions/comments d00ds, keep them coming!

Hrmm... how about this? Any map we make is going to involve the portal ANYways, so how about it just be more-or-less tangential? Like, there's an element that involves Era-Tech in some form, but it doesn't serve as anything but a set dressing.

I don't disagree with this idea, or dislike it. But if you think about it, making something other people are doing fit in with something else IS limiting their creativity in some way. Which I don't want to do.

The best I can say for now is that I'll consider it. It's just easier for everyone (so they can get started) if they focus on telling their own stories. I mean, you can make your own epic multi-story set of maps too.
